Our Hopeful Hounds story…

Hopeful Hounds was started March 1, 2021 and continues to be supported by our team of dedicated volunteers. We are a non-profit rescue created to help save the overflow of animals at Nelson County Animal Control.

We foster them, love them, vet them, and get them accepted to no-kill rescues. The Bell family has a network of rescues that they have worked with for over 10 years.

The dogs and cats find wonderful, loving homes as you can see in the Dog Alumni pages.

One of our co-founders, Dr. Jessica Ligon, DVM, graciously paid to become a member of the Veterinary Care Foundation. This created a 501c3 account so donations made through the Foundation are 100% tax deductible and go directly to the Hopeful Hounds account at Lovingston Veterinary Hospital.

Dr. Ligon also gives Hopeful Hounds a generous discount on vetting and medications.

90% of the pet food is donated to us.

Other costs, such as transport fees, van fuel and kennel heat are covered by a few fundraisers (check out our Events page) and kind donations that are not tax deductible.
